My current alarm clock is about 10 years old and on its last legs. In the past I have tried to use my phones as alarm clocks, but many of them were not reliable and couldn't be counted on to actually go off when needed. I have found the Nokia Nseries to be reliable for this, but then after just receiving the N800 to review I though that this may make a perfect bedside alarm clock since I could surf in bed up until I slept and also know that the battery life would take me through the night.
Well, I set it to the ocean sounds alarm and this morning at 4:10 am this baby went off and my wife almost kicked me out of the bed she was so shocked by the new sound. You see, the alarm function on the N800 starts out at a normal tone and then goes through something like 3 cycles of getting louder and louder to where there is no way in the world even a heavy sleeper like me can sleep through it. The cool thing is you can setup a music file as an alarm so I'll have to find a tune that works well with an alarm and try it again tomorrow. I also love the way you can use the stand to set it up just like a standard alarm clock.
I plan to use the tripod to actually start posting some Nseries first looks of different software, hardware, and accessories here or on my ZDNet blog.
